If you’ve ever dreamed of growing the grapes of your choice for your own winery, Red Mule Ranch Vineyard gives you that chance.

Located in the heart of Amador County’s historic wine country at an elevation of 2100 feet in the Sierra Nevada, this 13-acre vineyard sits in the Fiddletown AVA, a region long celebrated for its award-winning wines. The area’s climate—with cool mountain breezes at night and sun-filled days—creates ideal conditions for wine grapes, continuing a tradition that began with the 49ers during the Gold Rush.

The property was planted in 2004 and features four distinct vineyard blocks across a mix of hillside and valley terrain. Current plantings include Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. While some blocks prosper in the rocky, well-drained soils and produce beautifully complex wines, other areas are ready for replanting—giving you the flexibility to shape the vineyard into your vision.

Soils here are well-draining loam over slate, shale, sandstone, limestone, and dolomite providing the kind of character winemakers prize. With an average yield of 3 tons per acre, the vineyard is capable of producing up to 40 tons of fruit each season. You have the opportunity to manage this resilient vineyard organically, biodynamically or sustainably.

With two homes on the property, a caretaker can oversee both the vineyard and the main house as a vacation rental home. Guest will enjoy the beauty of the vineyard and the sweeping views across California’s central valley to the Coastal Range over 100 miles away. An auxiliary building that once housed a winery could be repurposed for production.

Red Mule Ranch Vineyard offers a rare opportunity: a working vineyard with a proven history of award-winning fruit, and the freedom to design and manage it around your winery’s goals.
