The city of Paso Robles is an ideal spot to relax after a full day of touring the nearby renowned vineyards and wineries. The city park hosts a number of entertainment events throughout the year, such as wine festivals, classic car shows, relaxing summer concerts and art expositions which highlight the local artisan talent of the Paso Robles region. There are two California missions in the Paso Robles area which date back over two hundred years and include artifacts from the early Native American settlements.
Shortly after the Civil War ended, the city planners envisioned the prime real estate of Paso Robles becoming an elegant city which would offer first-class amenities and would boast its natural hot sulfur springs as the main attraction. The stagecoach line quickly began bringing customers for the new bathhouse, hotel, the general store, and the small cottages built as housing for the tourists. Within two years, the city had grown tremendously, catering to the well-moneyed individuals traveling through and living in California. The city even had an opera house, train depot, and numerous other charming brick buildings as well as numerous saloons for the parched ranchers in need of social recreation.
Today, there are beautifully restored Victorian homes, a revitalized early California downtown, the hot springs flow again (even in the parking lot of the public library!), and the western heritage is well acknowledged and celebrated.
