Unique, detached, 4 bedroom house with small vineyard close to a beach. Beautiful panoramic view across a woodland and farmland valley.
Hanalei has just undergone substantial improvements including a new roof, underfloor heating, an in-wall vacuum cleaner system, a new kitchen, a new aga, solid oak flooring and decoration throughout.
The small vineyard made up of Seyval Blanc grapes has stood on this south facing slope to the side of the house for 80 years though not always harvested. Before we arrived at Hanalei the vines were looked after by enthusiasts associated with another local vineyard. In the time we’ve been here we’ve pruned and harvested the vines ourselves and subbed out the vinification process to the Three Choirs Vineyard in Gloucestershire. In 2005 we produced 800 bottles of which 200 were made into sparkling wine. Not a bad reward for a few weekends of honest work!
Half a mile or so down the lane (a 15min walk) is a great little beach called Cei Bach. When the tide is out it is possible to extend the walk all the way round to picturesque New Quay. There are no shortage of superb, unspoiled sandy beaches both north and south of us not forgetting the spectacular Pembrokeshire National Park coastline an hour to the south.
About 3 miles north is the beautiful harbour of Aberaeron with its popular gastro pub The Harbour Master and fish restaurant Hive on the Quay. There are excellent little shops here, a good butcher, fishmonger, baker, deli, health food shop, which provide the corner stone of a thriving local community. (The huge supermarkets are near by in either Cardigan, Carmarthen or Aberystwyth) |
